HAVING COMPLETED YET another campaign to raise funds for charity, Derry Nolan is back and looking toward his next challenge.
Derry went to Lake Garda in Italy with a number of others from around the country to raise funds to enhance the John Durkin Laboratory for Bone Marrow Leukaemia in St James’ Hospital. With 45 people having taken part, Derry describes how the week long walk which covered over 60km was very tough “because of the heat”.
“We walked over six days. In the heat, carrying our rucksacks, it was tough.”
Having campaigned tirelessly over the past seven months, Derry explains that he just went out with a bucket and raised €6,000 with the help of local support.
Derry explains that his next campaign is the ‘Light for Life’ event taking place in Dublin’s Harold’s Cross on 4th December, where people come together and light a light in memory of their loved ones. Each light is €5 to sponsor.
The bubbly Derry, remarked how he first got involved in doing charity work back in 1995. “I’ve seen people sick. It’s to help people there (Harold’s Cross hospice) who have leukaemia.”
So next time you see Derry, give him a hand and throw a few bob into his bucket as everything he collects goes directly to the charity he’s collecting for.
