THEY SAY CATS have nine lives, but for a bunch of seven puppies, it seems the old saying may extend to them also.
The puppies were rescued by ISPCA’s Inspector Brendan Hughes in North Kildare, having been abandoned by their owner. The cute little Lurchers were found beside their dead mother on a busy road.
Mr Hughes remarked: “I suspect the mother died from poisoning, and it looks very much like the little guys were dumped with her, probably because they are only a few weeks old and would have been too much trouble for the owner to hand feed.”
Saved by a caring member of the public who called when they saw them, the inspector added “I don’t think the puppies would have lasted much longer” had the ISPCA not been alerted to their situation when they were. “The heat of the day had already taken its toll on the pups, and it was a miracle that they hadn’t wandered onto the road.”
Mr Hughes syringe fed the weakened puppies on the way to the National Animal Centre and had to make several stops on route to take measures to bring their temperatures down.
The puppies will be looking for caring homes in the coming weeks.
