RESIDENTS in Clane’s Hazel Hall Nursing Home are to continue residing at Mountpleasent Lodge on the Kilcock Road for the short term, until management get the all clear in relation to flooding in the Clane facility.
All 34 residents were moved out in an emergency operation on Sunday, as flood waters began to rise around the home. Luckily, flood waters subsided and the water was contained by sandbags.
Among those to be moved, many of whom are high dependency residents was a 102 year old woman.
Pauling Connelly, Director of Nursing at Hazel Hall said backup was called for on Sunday when they realised that flood waters were rising. “Mountpleasant came to mind and when we made the call to them, they had no problem taking us in.” The newly opened unit have given a whole floor to the Clane residents.
Residents in Butterstream Estate on the Prosperous Road battled the water also, for the second time in a year but luckily escaped unscathed.
Clane GAA were highly praised for their work having sent out an early group text to all members seeking volunteers to help deal with the situation.
The basement car-park at the Abbeylands Shopping Centre was also flooded, while some bottom floor businesses also struggled to keep the flood waters out.
It is a worrying time also for residents in the lower reaches of the Loughbollard Estate out on the College Road.
The Civil Defence and local volunteers worked tirelessly all through Sunday afternoon and well into the evening to help alleviate the problem.
