A POPULAR bookmakers was the subject of a terrifying armed robbery on Monday afternoon (16th November) last.
Staff and customers at the Boylesport betting shop on Henry Street, Newbridge were left shaken when two men wearing balaclavas entered the shop, one carrying a gun and the other brandishing a knife at approx. 2.25pm.
The gunman stood at the front door while the other man threatened staff behind the counter at knifepoint, demanding a red bag he was carrying be filled with cash.
After an amount of cash was put into the bag the two raiders quickly exited the betting shop and jumped into a waiting black hatchback Toyota Corolla.
Gardai were quickly called to the scene and immediately summoned regional support and an air support helicopter in an attempt to track down the thugs, though to no avail.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses that might have seen the Corolla in the area prior to, or after the incident.
The two men are described as approx six feet tall, medium builds and wearing all black clothes.
A spokesperson from Boylesport told the Kildare Post on Tuesday that the company was “extremely thankful no staff or customers were harmed during the robbery.”
This is the sixth raid on separate bookies in county Kildare since August.
