ATHY native Gillian Deegan was a picture of composure as she stood in front of a global TV audience of 1.2 billion people last Thursday night to present an award at the MTV European Music Awards in Berlin.
Accompanied by Hollywood actress Juliette Lewis, the 21-year-old Waterford IT design student presented the ‘Best Alternative Award’ live at the prestigious MTV event.
Gillian won the chance to take to the stage after winning a sponsors competition, which saw her walking from Hamburg to Berlin along with 99 other competitors.
The Sony Erickson Fan Walk competition saw seven Irish people join up with contestants from all over Europe in Hamburg 10 days before the event.
Following the gruelling 10 day 300km walk, a delighted Gillian was voted by the other competitors as the person to go forward to present the award.
On the night itself, Gillian went for a funky look, wearing suit pants and some very high heels.
The awards show was presented by actor David Hasselhoff and singer Katie Perry, while there were live performances from Beyoncé, Robbie Williams, Green Day, Jay-Z and Leona Lewis.
As one of the presenters, Deegan received a special goody bag worth €12,000, which included a mobile phone, beauty vouchers and membership cards for exclusive clubs.
