St Kevin’s crowned a remarkable year on the football field by clinching two further titles over the weekend.

Staplestown’s finest secured the Tony Donoghue U-21 ‘B’ title with victory over Kill in Clane on Saturday, while the Saints U-15 panel picked up the Division Three league crown when they defeated Monasterevin in Newbridge on Sunday.

The weekend double caps a fantastic year for St.Kevin’s.

When you include underage honours, the northern Kildare club has won eight titles during 2008.

The most significant victory of the season was undoubtedly their replayed Intermediate Football Championship Final success over Monasterevin.

It was the Saints first IFC title since 1979 and their first adult championship since winning an Intermediate ‘B’ Championship in 1991.

The senior panel also won the SFL Division Two title earlier in the year to complete a memorable double, while the club also won six underage titles this year.

Speaking on the success in 2008, St Kevin’s secretary Alice Casey told the Post this week:

“It’s been an absolutely brilliant year, the best in the club’s history by far. We’re delighted with how it has gone and hope we can build on in 2009.”
