Popular Today FM presenter Ray D’Arcy is being hotly tipped to take over the reins of the Rathangan intermediate football panel for the new series of RTE’s hit reality show ‘Celebrity Bainisteoir.’
The Kildare club was approached by the show organisers only last Thursday about taking part in the new series, which is due to air next February.
Rathangan PRO Grace O’Loughlin confirmed to the Kildare Post this week that the club has accepted the invitation and they are now awaiting official confirmation on their new football boss for 2009.
“We have no official confirmation on who will be manager yet, but we do know that he will be introduced to the players at training this Saturday morning. The RTE cameras will be down for it,” revealed O’Loughlin on Tuesday afternoon.
Ray Darcy’s name was thrown into the hat on Monday morning when he announced on his radio show that he would be taking part in the new series.
Darcy, being a native of Kildare, looks the most likely to take over the reigns of Rathangan for the duration of the series.
The show throws unlikely participants in at the deep end, as they manage an intermediate football team, from their home county, in an official GAA tournament.
Each contestant will again have an experienced mentor on hand to help them train and manage the team ahead of an almighty battle for the title of Celebrity Bainisteoir.
O’Loughlin added: “The club and the entire town is now buzzing at the news, and we can’t wait for it all to get going.”
