A burglary ‘rampage’ in Rathangan has left three businesses in turmoil, as they approach their busiest time of the year.
Gardai believe the break-ins took place shortly before 6am yesterday morning, Tuesday, November 25.
The businesses broken in to included T&d Household, Projector World and Dara Core in Acorn Industrial Estate, Rathangan. This is the first time any of the three were targeted by thieves.
All three had windows smashed after rocks were thrown at them and damage of up to €5,000 also done.
Tom Foy of T&d Household said: “It was awful to find this morning. The windows were broken and we had stock taken too. We believe the culprits were looking for cash.” The businesses were forced to close for the morning in a bid to clean up the efforts of the thieving thugs.
“It’s not just what they take but the mess they leave behind,” Tom said. The businesses have also been left with the cost of upping their security efforts as they had to employ a security guard throughout the night, last night as the glass could not be replaced immediately.
Tom says he is now being forced to review security at his shop and will have to upgrade his present system with “cameras,” that kind of thing. “A substantial amount will have to be spent on it,” he remarked.
Gardai are continuing investigations and believe that the culprits may have been disturbed and left early. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
