Refusing to comment on rumours about the supermarket giant, management at Dunnes Stores are remaining tight-lipped on the future of the company.
With rumours rife about a possible buy-out bid from American company Walmart, and a cut back in opening hours in the two Kildare branches, workers are increasingly concerned about the situation.
“We’ve had no contact from the company. We’ve been trying to seek some sort of reaction” but the company had not said a word, said a spokesperson for Mandate Trade Union. As a result Mandate is now writing to Dunnes again to seek clarification and are even considering going through the Labour Relations Commission in a bid to get information on the matter.
Locally, 24 hour services stopped in Dunnes, Newbridge on 1st November while it stopped in the Maynooth branch last May.
“Workers are very worried especially in the run up to Christmas. Nobody has told them anything and they’ve very afraid of job losses if there is a buyout.
“There were rumours of a management meeting that was to be held last Thursday and an announcement due after it, but that was cancelled,” the spokesperson said.
