Naas General Hospital has seen one of its worst bouts of the winter vomiting bug, effecting entire wards at the hospital.

Visitors have been asked to take the necessary pre-cautions at this time and only essential visits should be taken.

“It would be overstating to say people are in danger but the winter vomiting bug can be serious especially in the very young and older people, so it is advised to follow the restrictions in place”, warned Annette Fitzpatrick, HSE Communications Officer.

The restrictions to visiting put in place over the Christmas period do not appear to be relaxed any time soon as the bug continues to persist.

People are urged to use their common sense. If people feel in any way unwell, with a tummy bug or cold and flu systems then they should stay away from the hospital. People can be more susceptible to picking up bugs at this time of year.

It is advised that if people are vomiting a lot they should contact their own GP as opposed to going to Naas General Hospital.

Precautionary devices such as taking extra vitamin c are advisable at this time of year.
